Day 1: AIRPORT - NEGOMBO

Upon your arrival at Colombo International Airport in Sri Lanka, you will be welcomed and assisted by a representative of Adithya Lanka Holidays and your chauffeur guide will escort you to Negombo, a vibrant beach resort town. Take time to rest and recover from any jet lag. NEGOMBO is renowned for its lively atmosphere, blending diverse cultures and contrasts. If you're up for exploration, your guide can lead you to discover captivating sights and landmarks, including a scenic boat ride along the Dutch canal. Alternatively, indulge in relaxation on the renowned golden sands of Negombo beach.

Day 2: NEGOMBO - GALLE
Begin your day with an early morning excursion to the lively 'lellama' fish market in Negombo, where fishermen gather to sell their overnight catch. Witness the vibrant atmosphere as they display their bounty. Afterward, embark on a journey south along the picturesque coastline to the World Heritage city of GALLE. This historic gem is Sri Lanka's oldest living city, boasting a wealth of cultural sites. Wander through its charming streets lined with Dutch-colonial buildings, ancient mosques, churches, and grand mansions. Explore museums, stylish cafes, quirky boutiques, and beautifully restored villas and hotels, all contributing to Galle's unique allure.

Day 3: GALLE - YALA

Day 4: YALA
After breakfast, explore YALA or BUNDALA NATIONAL PARKS. Comprising scrubland, sparse forest, grassy plains, and brackish lagoons, Yala is famous for the Sri Lankan Leopard (a unique subspecies) and is considered to have the highest density of leopards in the world. Sri Lanka’s ‘Big Five’ can be spotted here too - elephants, sloth bears, sambur, and crocodiles, so you might see them all and other animals and birds too. Bundala National Park is a fantastic maze of waterways, lagoons, and dunes home to thousands of birds.

Day 5: YALA - ELLA

Day 6: ELLA
Take it easy and spend the day exploring Ella. This small but popular town nestled high in the mountains is famed for its breathtaking views. Visit the mighty Ravana falls and the iconic Nine Arch Bridge at Demodara - now made famous by myriad videos. Follow the trails to Ella Gap and the panoramic views across the valleys are well worth the climb. Take a trek to Little Adam’s Peak - the best place to catch a bird’s eye view of the bridge and beautiful sunsets too.

Day 7: ELLA - KANDY
Take a ride that is considered to be one of the most epic train journeys in the world. The pace is leisurely, but the wonderful scenery you encounter along the way will make you forget the time and everything else. The line winds through villages, forests, and tea estates. It curves around high mountain passes giving you magnificent views of waterfalls and valleys beyond. This is an unforgettable way to catch a glimpse of real Sri Lanka. Later, check into your homestay in Kandy to rest.

Day 8: KANDY
Start the day with a traditional cooking demo, making your lunch on earthenware pots and a woodfire stove. Then set off to explore KANDY. Kandy was the stronghold of the last Sinhalese kingdom. Pay homage to the Temple of the Tooth Relic, which houses Sri Lanka’s most sacred relic - a tooth of the Lord Buddha. Visit the Udawattekele forest reserve or take in the views from upper Lake drive. In the evening, attend a performance featuring traditional dances from the different regions of Sri Lanka.

Day 9: KANDY - PASIKUDAH
After breakfast, leave the hills for the beaches of PASIKUDA. En route visit Batticaloa. The once mighty Batticaloa fort now houses administrative offices, and though large sections of the structure are sadly crumbling, it’s still an evocative sight. The Batticaloa Lighthouse stands at the end of a sandbar, surrounded by lagoons and mangroves. The 28m tall lighthouse dates from 1913 and the sheltered coastline around is also popular. Continue to Pasikuda, and spend the rest of the day at leisure, enjoying the blissful beach.

Day 10: PASIKUDAH
Take a well-earned rest from traveling and sightseeing to enjoy a day completely at leisure. The pristine white sands of Pasikuda beach will make that an easy task. A classic tropical paradise picture postcard location, Pasikuda is pure bliss. A long stretch of curving white sands that seem endless, cloudless blue skies, and a warm gentle ocean where the water is so clean and clear. It’s perfect for snorkeling, diving, sailing, and a host of other water sports if lazing in the sun gets too tedious.

Day 11: PASIKUDA - SIGIRIYA
Travel to SIGIRIYA after a leisurely breakfast. In the afternoon climb Sigiriya or Pidurangala. One of Sri Lanka’s most significant cultural landmarks, the World Heritage Site of Sigiriya Rock Fortress is an architectural masterpiece carved from a massive rock. The frescos halfway up the rock face are still remarkable and the climb to the top is well worth it - for the views are truly incredible. Pidurangala is another massive rock formation almost directly opposite Sigiriya, with equally majestic views, especially of its more famous landmark.

Day 12: SIGIRIYA – POLONNARUWA - NEGOMBO
After breakfast, travel to the heritage city of POLONNARUWA. A World Heritage site, Polonnaruwa was the medieval capital of ancient Lanka from the 11th to 13th century A.D and the glories of that era still remain well preserved in the archeological ruins of Lankathilaka, Thuparamaya, Royal Palace, Rankoth Vehera and Gal Viharaya and many other sites. Afterward, journey back to Negombo - closer to the airport, to rest and recoup overnight after your long days on the road and be ready for your flight home.
